Jul. 26th, 2007 @ 06:46 pm R2 DVDs on the way
Had a series of emails today from Yesasia to say the Kiddy Grade Ignition, Gigtantic Formula 1 and Lucky Star 2 DVDs had all shipped.
Had an email yesterday to say that the Limited Edition version of Negima!? manga 19 was not available and had been deleted from my order. Since this was due out a week ago, I had pre-ordered and they had stated it was available at the time, I'm a little annoyed at this. I don't even know what was included with the LE but I'm still annoyed. The LE of Negima!? neo 2 is also in that order and still down as awaiting stock which is worrying since it was due out on the same day.

I wouldn't say I am incensed, but I am certaintly miffed that a certain site has pinched scans from mine. It's not so much that they've taken the scans and used them without credit, since while I own the books (which are rather limited in distribution) and went through the trouble of scanning and cleaning them up, I do not own the images themselves. What annoys me is that they have plastered their site's watermark on them.
Case in point is this image which is quite clearly a scaled down copy of mine. Unless of course they happen to not only own the book, but also a scanner with exactly the same annoying defects (the lawn stripes are not on the original) and placed the original in exactly the same place on the scanner glass.

Oh, and PS: I have no idea why an Utakata site has a banner made entirely of images of Cocoon.

PPS, looking at their cosplay pics (first time I've seen anyone other than Kano doing Utakata cosplay), I realise how much Manatsu's hair fails in real life.

Feb. 9th, 2007 @ 03:03 am Negima!? 1 SP
Still not sure whether I'll be continuing with the Negima!? DVDs, especially since the neo pactios are scattered across so many released, including games I can't play, that I'll never have them all, but the first DVD arrived today.
The booklet again confirms the "Kitty" in Eva's name, but writes Chamo as "Chamomile Albert" whereas I thought it was the other way around.
I've only just started on the extras disc, but they just revealed that the skirt that falls down during the OP is Makie's. Looks like I wasn't the only one wondering about that.

[edit]Oh, forgot to mention, the pactio included was Nodoka's Armour card. Her artifact is "thought reading' dialy". You'd think by now they'd make sure to double checks the r/ls when writing roman, and I don't know what that spare apostrophe is there for.[/edit]

Just a little comment on the latest Torchwood (episode 5? I've lost count):
Did anyone else immediately think of Nemu Asakura as soon as people started coughing up flower petals?

So.. neglect again, gomen (although I have been posting to my other blog)
Can't think of much to say at the moment.. was going to post something last night but I was just so tired I ended up just browsing through my friends page.
I'm currently in work. With a cold. Been fighting it off for a while, started taking Echinacea and whatever when my glands went up again, but I lost the battle a few days ago and been getting worse since. Thankfully my nose is OK but my throat hurts, which isn't good when you're on the phone all day.
My big order from the Rightstuf sale arived the other day, 10 DVDs which finished off three series: Stellvia and Someday's Dreamers which I only had the starter set for and Sol Bianca the Legacy where I had a couple of random volumes. I would have liked to have picked up Gatekeepers 21 (I bought the R3 recently but the subs were bootleg quality), but they must have sold out as it was not in the sale. Shoppingmalljapan recently decided to bill me out of the blue for shipping on some items that had been stuck in Japan for like a year... every time I request shipping they only sent the items stored in the US. Can't even remember exactly what I'm getting.

Watched Torchwood on Monday on VoD. Doesn't seem too bad so far, although I think they went a bit too far with the 'adult' in the second episode (kinda liked they were trying to achieve a crossbreeding of Dr Who and Lexx). As others have pointed out they have gone for strong Welsh accents rather than typical Cardiff accents for some reason. Links with Doctor Who: Captain Jack obviously (and exactly how did he travel back in time?), the Doctor's severed hand from the Christmas Invasion, the rift (and the perceptual filter thing left on the spot the TARDIS landed in Boomtown). I thought the makeup on those Weevil things was done well. The worst thing was that bit with the posessed girl wandering the streets where they had the camera attached to her or whatever, the effect just looked awful.

The laptop got back yesterday - wiped clean (new HD presumably as the noise has gone)
They've replaces the lid and some other plastics, although while the old cracks are gone there are now some new ones in diffrernt places... but at least the battery charges now so they may have replaced that also.
Got most of the main software and settings back (although missing stuff since thte last big backup), although still haven't imported my documents back in.

Sep. 5th, 2006 @ 02:08 pm So...
Updates:
My laptop broke while on holiday, the hard drive is dying, so I'm without it until it's been RMAd and repaired and have lost a months worth of email and other stuff since my last major backup (thankfully I have most stuff backed up since I reinstalled Windows recently. I hadn't reformatted at the time so time will tell how much stuff hidden in corners of the HD I forgot to backup...)
On the way home the tarp came loose and our camcorder bag fell off the roofrack... so we had to quicly reverse up the hard shoulder and grab it before it gos squished. Looks to have survived thankfully.
When we got back one of the cats was missing (uncle called in twice to make sure they had enough dry food etc, she had been there the fisrt time but not the second). Turned up the next day in some neighbours garage, they'd taken her in as she'd sat in front of their car and would not move (she is very stubborn in her old age..) but their vet diagnosed a heart murmur. She's definitely not right as she keeps collapsing and our own vet has prescribed some expensive pills..

In terms of stuff, Haruhi DVD 2 was on the doormat when we got back and the Negima manga 15 LE was with our next-door neighbours. I believe Kanon has been delayed though. I've just bought an external DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW/RAM/DL drive to compensate for not having access to the drive in my laptop (my desktop 'server' only had a CDRW) since I have a weeks RAWs and stuff to catch up on and not much disk space left. I would like to get the second magi?poka "pokahn box" but I don't think I can afford it at the moment... I've pretty much decided not to collect the rest of the Higurashi DVDs since I was underwhelmed by the extras. I meant to order Aya Hirano's new single which is out around now, but cannot remember if I actually did.

Well, I'm off on holiday at a little beach house for a week tomorrow (well, today..) so thought I might as well plonk an update down. Suzumiya Haruhi volume 2 shipped the other day, so knowing my luck it will arrive while I'm away and require a trip to the post office... Negima 15 LE with the DVD has also shipped and I expect the Kanon promo will soon also. Just discovered that Gotoh released another Gocky Club doujin at Comiket 70 (Shuffle!-related this time) so I hastily bagged a copy from Yahoo auctions.
Played a few games of Neverwinter Nights online with my cousin this week, first time since he hooked up with his girlfriend (now wife) so it took a while to get the game to connect through all the firewalls etc. Still a good game, must really pick up on my solo play sometime. Still haven't sat down and played Baldur's Gate mind, and I really should.
Work has been a bit stressful lately, calls queueing up hard and fast so I'll be glad of the weeks respite. Hopefully at least some of the new trainees will still be there when I get back and will have settled in. I still wish they hadn't forced me into taking customer service calls, as I did after all sign up as a technical support agent and have never been terribly comfortable with soft squidgy CS issues.
Found an old friend lurking on teh interweb recently. Don't know that there's much point in re-introducing after all this time, but "hi!" if you know who you are :)

Jul. 28th, 2006 @ 12:38 am Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
Just checked my mail and according to Yes Asia my copy of the Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu 01 LE (altough they still insist on quaintly calling it Asahina Mikuru no Boken Episode 01) shipped yesterday morning. Glad I preordered it since CDJapan are sold out already (speaking of which, they now have picture up - see http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=KABA-1502 ). Of course, if it made it to Yes Asia in time for them to ship it prior to release day then some people in Japan must already have their copy and I demand scans and details!

Something reallt annoyed me about this episode; the Doctor was so insistent throughout that nothing could have existed before the universe however he seems to have forgotten that in Terminus it was revealed that the Big Bang was instigated by Terminus station and another universe existed prior to this one.
There was also that wierd commment about the Timelords creating black holes... if he is referring to the Eye of Harmony (which must somehow have survived the destruction of Gallifrey since it powers the TARDIS) it was created from a black hole, no the other way around.

May. 15th, 2006 @ 01:16 am Big Buddha
We went to Chessington on Saturday, and in the "Oriental" section we went past a giant Buddha. When we got to the top of the nearby logflume ride it occured to me "that looks like the giant Buddha in Kamakura" (as seen in Uta Kata), and when I went to look at it afterwards there was a plaque announcing that it was a replica of the giant Buddha in Kamakura. I guess props go to Uta Kata (again) for it's realistic portrayal of real locations, and to Chessington for taking the "theme" in themepark literally and actually building a 50ft Buddha.

May. 4th, 2006 @ 05:55 pm Digimon Encylopedia
I've finally started what I said I was going to do years ago, namely trying to convert Megchan's encyclopedia to a PHP/MySQL database system.
So far I've got as far as creating a table for the basic Digimon data and entered the data for one 'mon:
http://digimon.thenexxus.org/database/
(so far, so unimpressive..)

and I'm also working on a script to extract information from the original HTML files:
http://digimon.thenexxus.org/database/extract.php

Lot of work to go yet (and I haven't even started on the cards yet...), plus I have to then resesarch the data for the missing option cards and all the newer cards and 'mon.

Apr. 29th, 2006 @ 08:36 pm My old school on new Doctor Who!
Yay! Parts of tonights episode were filmed in my old High School, Fitzalan. I recognised the pool in particular, and they shot some scenes in the school grounds as well. Didn't recognise any interior shots in particular (but then I wasn't really looking until I recognised the pool and I haven't been in there in a while..), but they seem to have used other locations as well as there were no rooms with balconies when I was there.

Since the FUNimation forums are still down, I've been wandering around the FUNiGirls site for the first time. While I dislike flash sites on principle, its well made and has some cool freebies to download (now all we need is a FUNiGuys site with less bishounen and more bishoujo..)
Just for the heck of it, I signed up for the newsletter, which involved filling in a large form and I have to say I love the last question :)

Jan. 14th, 2006 @ 11:36 am commas
Listening to a radio news report this morning, it ocured to me just how inportant the lowly comma can be: "..they were accused of violating human rights and speaking French..."

On the subject of commas, here's an extract from an email I saw in work some time ago that amused me:

"Your agents' advice was totally contradictory. One told me to prefix your telephone number with 1470, another said delete 1470, another said insert one comma before the number, the next said insert two commas before this number and I called a psychiatrist when told to delete all these bloody commas! The psychiatrist is of the opinion that you are a shower of sadists! The ultimate insult has to be the extortion of 50 pence a minute to be driven insane."

Here's me trying to keep up to date with this thing.
Don't have a great deal of news since I slept all last night (having, as mentioned, taken some strong painkiller before going to work yesterday)
The other day I bought some My-HiME figures (one of each except Mai herself who had sold out). Not having much space I've only put out Alyssa (I pinched the head from Miyu's box to complete it) and Midori, who was a pain to assemble since there are no instructions (still have a pieve left over I couldn't find a place for). Now, despite coming with a base, there was no way to mount Midori on it so had to leave her balancing on Gakutenou who has, for some reason, a wierd bump on the underneath. Since my monitor isn't the most stable of surfaces however, she fell off the other night. I managed to find all the pieces, however the handle of her [axe-thingy] has snapped where the two pieces join. I'm not sure what to do.. I could glue it back on, but then since it is inserted through her hand that would make removing it difficult:\

Jan. 12th, 2006 @ 01:40 pm LJ icons
Just realised I can now have 6 icons.. since I've never used this thing enough to get around to paying for it I've been stuck on the default three for years. Saw someone yesterday with hundreds...
Since this is journal I may as well try to say something journally.. was up late last night with a migraine and took some strong painkillers so I'm currently rather foggy, which isn't fun when you're stuck in work. Still waiting for some stuff I ordered from TRSI before christmas to arrive.. I can live without the DVDs but I also ordered a new bag as mine is falling apart and I really want to get shot of it as soon as possible. I've won a couple of Gocky Club (Gotoh) doujins from Comiket 69 on Yahoo!JP auctions, but haven'y had the invoice yet and don't have any money to pay for it anyway.... the thing with being paid early before Christmas is, you have plenty of money for Christmas but unfortunately you have to make it stretch further and it's stretched pretty thin at the moment :\

I just found out that there's a place in the UK called Swadlincote. What a cool place that must be to live at Christmas time.. "they found the baby in Swadlincote, lying in a manger".
Not sure which is cooler mind, that or Bethlehem in Wales.
